English Language Qualifications
There are lots of different English language qualifications. Below is a short summary of some of them.
Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA)
The Scottish Qualifications Authority is the Scottish national organisation for awarding exams. If you study at school or college in Scotland you will do SQA assessments. Usually SQA ESOL assessments are completed in class. If you study at National 5 or Higher level you will also have to do an exam in June.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
IELTS is one of the most common English language tests. In Glasgow, you can take an IELTS test at the following centres.

Trinity English Language Qualifications
You can study Trinity qualifications at Glasgow Clyde College - Langside Campus.
Secure English Language Test
From 5th of November 2015 the Secure English Language Test will be the only test you need for UK Citizenship. The SELT tests speaking and listening. You need Grade 5 (approximately Intermediate level) for Citizenship. You need Grade 2 for spouse or dependant visas.
Cambridge English Language Assessments have lots of different exams. Here are the most common ones:
KET = Key English Test
PET = Preliminary English Test
FCE = First Certificate in English
CAE = Certificate in Advanced English
CPE = Certificate of Proficiency in English
BULATS = Business Language Testing Service

English Language Testing For Settlement and Nationality Applicants for settlement or naturalisation will no longer be able to use SQA ESOL qualifications as evidence of their English language skills.
Tests for UK Visas, British Citizenship, Leave to Remain
Trinity provides Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) across the UK. These tests are approved for applications to UKVI for visas, British Citizenship and Leave to Remain:
- Graded Examinations in Spoken English (GESE) - A1, A2 and B1 tests
- Integrated Skills in English (ISE) - B1, B2 and C1 tests
